چکیده
DESCRIPTION A 79-year-old woman presented with a case of hypertensive cardiovascular disease and liver cirrhosis. Her medical history of fish bone with oesophageal perforation and mediastinitis was noted. She suffered from sudden onset of haematemesis while brushing teeth and 500 ml fresh blood was vomited. Emergent panendoscopy (PES) showed a vessel with active spurting over 20 cm from the incisor in the oesophagus. An aortoesophageal fistula (AEF) with active spurting was impressed. Contrast chest CT study in axial (figure 1) and coronal (figure 2) view showed a linear hyperdensity (arrow) and abnormal gas in mediastinum between swollen oesophagus (E) and aortic arch with a small pseudoaneurysm (arrow head). Fish bone penetrated the oesophagus resulting in mediastinitis and mycotic aneurysm of the aorta was considered. Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) was per-

Secondary Aortoesophageal Fistula Associated With Aneurysmal Graft Infection by Coxiella burnetii.
Aortoesophageal fistula is a rare and serious condition that carries a high mortality rate. We present a case of overt gastrointestinal bleeding from an aortoesophageal fistula in a patient with chronic infection of an endovascular prosthesis with Coxiella burnetii.
متن کاملDeath by aortoesophageal fistula due to disseminated tuberculosis: a case study.
Tuberculosis remains a serious public health problem worldwide, especially in Korea. Although tuberculosis is generally considered a non-fatal chronic disease, deaths have occurred. In this case study, a 68-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with dyspepsia, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Nine hours later, he suffered severe hematemesis and died despite cardiopulmonary resuscitation. A med...
متن کاملSecondary aortoesophageal fistula after thoracic aortic aneurysm endovascular repair: literature review and new insights regarding the hypothesized mechanisms.
BACKGROUND Endovascular aortic repair was first performed nearly two decades ago and has become a well-established alternative therapy for many thoracoabdominal aortic diseases. Early survival results with the endovascular aortic repair were impressive, but it also brought many complications. Aortoesophageal fistula is little-known and may be underestimated because it is an unusual complication...
متن کاملSuccessful Endovascular Repair of Mycotic Aortic Pseudoaneurysm Followed by Aortoesophageal Fistula
Mycotic aneurysm of the aorta is a rare, but life-threatening pathology. In recent years, endovascular stent graft placement has been introduced as an effective alternative for treating infected aortic aneurysms. A 64-year-old woman with a history of paraplegia due to spinal cord injury was referred to our institute with fever and blood-tinged sputum. Computed tomography (CT) scan showed an 11-...
متن کاملLate-onset aortoesophageal fistula after treatment of a chronic type B aortic dissection with a three-step approach
Aortoesophageal fistula is a rare but lethal complication after thoracic endovascular repair for thoracic aortic diseases. Extensive treatment is reserved for patients fit for surgery. Various technical approaches have been described; however, mortality rates are still high. Herein, we report a case of a 76-year-old woman with aortoesophageal fistula treated by a three-step treatment approach, ...
